Intelligent mole 'eats' information

As the computer age generates more and more data, the world is turning to a Wellington software developer - Hyperbolex Limited - to help make it manageable.

Hyperbolex was established in 2000 to commercialise a locally developed content analysis tool, termed 'The Mole', and to take advantage of the opportunities emerging in the unstructured data market (information in word processing documents, email, pdf files and the like).

Today The Mole is a leading content intelligence product, helping hundreds of users in New Zealand and around the world to cope with the growing volumes of information on websites, email, file systems and databases.

Hyperbolex chief executive Ted Thomas says organisations have invested large amounts of money in software products for storing and archiving information, but little attention has been paid to how users might more effectively access, interpret and use the information.

"I think most organisations struggle with the huge amount of information that is available, and have insufficient time to find what they are looking for."

"To read and understand information costs time and resources. A product like The Mole helps organisations to get an immediate understanding of the content of documents," he says.

The Mole enables users to discover information using their intuitive process, and to extract the relevant content based on their area of interest to derive meaning. "The system is designed to work the way a person thinks - identifying the essential points and zeroing in on what you are looking for."

Government agencies, law firms and consultancies are among the many organisations who are now Mole converts. With The Mole, a legal team, for example, can research a large quantity of online data in a fraction of the usual time.

Ted says that with the volume of unstructured data expected to increase, as mobile data and other new technologies make it even easier for global content transfer, Hyperbolex is at the forefront of content intelligence.

The company is now focusing on Europe and the United States for growth opportunities although it will continue to base its software development in Wellington. "The combination of the skilled workforce and leading edge technology means Wellington provides and ideal environment for developing our products and taking them to the world."

About Hyperbolex

Hyperbolex develops and licenses content intelligence technologies The Mole used in the discovery of information from unstructured data sources. The Mole uses a powerful (international patent pending) content analysis technology to provide abstracts of information based on a user's area of interest. The Mole's unique ability to unlock the value within unstructured data and automate processes around this information differentiates it from its competitors.
