The Situation

Law firm Rainey Collins was established in 1919. Rainey Collins is committed to delivering the very highest standards of professional service to their clients. The firm believes lawyers need to make the most of any benefits arising from advancements in technology. “We are not afraid of innovation and we pride ourselves on using technology to provide a better, more efficient and ultimately more cost effective service to our clients”, said James Johnston, Chairman of Partners for the firm.

In order to support complex legal arguments the firm is regularly asked to review and advise clients on the relevance of information contained in large documents. This often requires a number of staff working simultaneously to meet tight deadlines. “With electronic communication people are expecting an instant reply. We receive draft reports (say 500+ pages) and are expected to respond almost immediately”, said Mr Johnston.

The Solution

The Mole Content Analyzer enables us to get an immediate understanding of the content. The Mole Content Analyzer assists by quickly highlighting significant aspects of a document. This compliments our assessment to ensure the required time is allocated to deliver a quality result to our clients.”

The Mole Content Analyzer sits as a toolbar button ready to be activated when we have a Word or pdf document to be reviewed. When the toolbar button is selected The Mole Content Analyzer presents the key words and phrases in the document. Abstracts of significant content are presented within seconds of making the request based on any key word or phrase chosen.

Alternatively the user can enter a specific search expression and The Mole Content Analyzer will return an abstract based on the search topic. This means the user can quickly identify the essential points and focus on the key areas that they are interested in. Links to the source text enable the user to understand the context of the relevant information.

Results

“Initially we were very sceptical. The Mole Content Analyzer didn’t immediately present itself as an opportunity. Then we thought about the large reports and how The Mole could make the time consuming process of reviewing the documents more cost-effective.” Following a trial of The Mole Content Analyzer the sceptics were convinced. “The more we use The Mole the greater confidence we have gained.” We gained an immediate benefit from using The Mole Content Analyzer and more useful applications are being discovered as we become more experienced at using it. We continue to get benefits as we use it in other areas of our business.”

Rainey Collins also welcomes the ongoing opportunities that have existed to give feedback and to discuss with Superstructure-Upshot Technologies Limited ways of further improving The Mole Content Analyzer to achieve even greater benefits for the firm and its clients.
